Vote for the Planet
During election season, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the scope of the issues at hand or to get stuck focusing on our differences.
The truth of it is that we all share one planet. With a new UNFCCC report showing that national climate plans are currently far from limiting warming to 1.5°C, as committed to in the Paris Agreement, it has never been more important to vote for candidates and policies that support climate innovation and environmental protection. Put simply: if we cannot protect our home, the rest does not matter.
The good news for voters is that there are resources available to help you to learn more and get involved locally. Here are a few of our favorites:
Find the Right Candidates
Use the The League of Conservation Voters (LCV)’s National Environmental Scorecard to see where candidates stand on environmental issues. This annual report is compiled based on a factual scoring of Congress members’ voting records.
Get Prepared
BallotReady can help you take the next step, no matter where you are in the voting process. Visit their website to check your voter registration, request a ballot, learn about your local representatives, research candidates’ positions on a variety of issues, and make a plan to vote.
Call & Canvass
Patagonia is partnering with LCV to get out the vote for climate-friendly candidates through phone banks and door-to-door canvassing opportunities. Sign up to get in the loop on upcoming opportunities in your area!
Get Out and Vote!
The single most important thing that you can do as an individual is cast your ballot. If you are not mailing in or dropping off your ballot, use Vote.org‘s search to find your local polling place, and get out there!
