VG PRESENTS LIVING BUILDING CHALLENGE AT CAL POLY POMONA
VG’s Project Manager and Energy Analyst, Kanika Sharma, delivered a Living Building Challenge presentation to students at the California State Polytechnic University at Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Kanika, who serves as Co-Facilitator of the the Living Building Challenge Los Angeles Collaborative, was joined by Justin Di Palo of Syska Hennessy, and the pair inspired students to build a “living future” by creating buildings that function more like trees or flowers, and are wholly self-sufficient (net zero energy and net zero water) on their sites, just as trees harvest all the energy and water they need to survive from their rooted location. Building designers should use the practice of biomimicry, or nature inspired design, to think about how nature would solve design problems, and create projects that are as high performance and efficient as possible.
