Embodied Carbon & Life Cycle Assessment (LCAs)
In this three-hour presentation, we will explore the concept of a life cycle assessment and its significance.

We will review various platforms and frameworks for conducting LCAs, including EU Taxonomy, LEED, and California’s new embodied carbon requirements. We will highlight key materials likely to have high embodied carbon in projects and discuss how to implement an LCA at various project phases. Additionally, we will examine different tools capable of performing an LCA and address current challenges and inconsistencies in LCA practices. Examples and case studies will be provided.

CALGreen Title 24
Part 11
This three-hour course is designed for those interested in learning about the California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) and updates.

The course will review Residential and Non-Residential standards and demonstrate how designers, contractors, and developers are addressing the requirements.

In order to compare changes from the previous code cycle, changes to CALGreen 2022 and the interim update effective July 1, 2024 will be highlighted. The Reach code and voluntary tiers in CALGreen will be discussed.

Project Update

Carbon Avoidance Study

Verdical Group recently supported IPS-Integrated Project Services in developing a Carbon Avoidance Study for a confidential client. The study demonstrates how much carbon was avoided by choosing to retrofit an existing building rather than opt for a new construction build.

Following a collaborative kick off meeting and a data collection stage, our team mapped the carbon impact of each building material for two parallel life cycle assessments, one using new materials and one using an existing building as the structure. The deliverable provided for this project was a report comparing the carbon impact of the two models—and the results are worth sharing! Verdical Group was able to demonstrate the project avoided 67% of carbon emissions by renovating an existing building rather than building something completely new.
