Top 5 Reasons to Attend the Net Zero Conference

Top 5 Reasons to Attend the Net Zero Conference

By Chloe Woodruff

Verdical’s annual Net Zero Conference & Expo, hosted virtually this year on September 15 + 16, is just two months away! We’re pleased to be bringing NZ20 to you, while still mimicking the energy you’ve come to expect from the in-person event.

1. Discover the latest innovations and trends in net zero

The Net Zero Conference is a hub for thought-leaders in climate, carbon, energy, water, waste, and transit. We’re pleased to introduce this year’s slate of speakers, who will be joining us virtually to present exciting keynotes, cutting-edge educational panels, workshops, building tours, and more. See the full Program, including descriptions of each session, here.

2. Connect with industry leaders

We strongly believe that our best-in-class platform goes above and beyond to inspire communication, providing attendees with opportunities to engage and ask questions during sessions, tours, and networking events, as well as in the interactive virtual Expo Hall.

Premium networking opportunities include the “Happy Half Hour” and annual Trailblazer Awards ceremony on the 16th, though attendees are encouraged to message and book one-on-one meetings with one another within our virtual platform throughout the event.

3. Earn Your CEUs in two days, from your home

Net Zero Conference attendees are able to self-report their hours to USGBC, AIA, and ILFI.

Attendees will be provided with detailed instructions for self-reporting after the event. Because our virtual platform allows us to track session registration, we invite you to request a certificate of attendance after the event.

4. Attend Special Partner Events & Workshops

We’re excited to be partnering with some of the biggest names in the green building world, the U.S. Green Building Council and the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), to bring NZ20 attendees additional programming:

  • Net Zero Accelerator Fast Pitches
Join the U.S. Green Building Council Los Angeles Chapter as they showcase the work of their Net Zero Accelerator startups. At the end of this showcase, attendees will be able to vote to select a company to receive a Trailblazer Award the following day.

*This event is included in the Two-Day Main Conference Pass and Full Access Passes.

  • U.S. Green Building Council LEED Zero Workshop
This workshop will explore how LEED Zero supports expands the verification life-cycle of high performing buildings. It will teach LEED Zero from the why to the what and, most importantly, the how.

LEED Zero provides a framework for building projects to transition from leadership in design to leadership in performance. LEEDv4.1 is already driving the built environment to higher levels of holistic sustainability performance; LEED Zero takes this one step further to certify net zero energy, carbon, water, and waste performance levels.

*This event is ticketed separately from the Net Zero Conference passes and may be added to your cart during registration.

  • ILFI Core Green Building Certification: Getting Started on Achieving High Performance Buildings Workshop
Core Green Building Certification℠ (Core) is a simple framework that outlines the 10 best practice achievements that a building must obtain to be considered a green or sustainable building. It puts the connection to nature, equity and the need for a building to be loved on even footing with the more typical water, energy and materials concerns. Regardless of the size or location of the project, Core simplifies the complexity contained within our current understanding of how we define a ‘green building.’

In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn how Core seeks to rapidly diminish the gap between the highest levels of established green building certification programs and the aspirations of the Living Building Challenge. You’ll leave with an understanding of the requirements of Core and successful strategies for achieving certification.

*This event is ticketed separately from the Net Zero Conference passes and may be added to your cart during registration.

  • ILFI Zero Carbon Certification: Addressing Embodied and Operational Carbon in Buildings Workshop
As climate action becomes more urgent, there is a growing focus on embodied carbon within the built environment. The Zero Carbon Certification program specifically measures this action, recognizing projects that decarbonize both operational and embodied carbon. This 2-hour workshop is designed to inform and empower those who are ready to join the movement towards decarbonizing the built environment with ILFI.

In this workshop, we’ll explore examples of the leading-edge approaches and carbon assessment tools being utilized by teams across the globe to achieve ambitious climate action goals. You’ll leave with the technical understanding and ownership of the value statements for Zero Carbon so that you may pursue this goal on your next project.

5. Get more bang for your buck

Hosting an interactive online experience allows us to provide more content to more sustainability pros at a lower cost:

  • For the first time, the Net Zero Conference will be offering attendees a Free Access Pass ($0), which provides access to the Expo Hall and Green Job Fair.

Our virtual Expo Hall lets attendees get that real, in-person tradeshow feel. Attendees can navigate to sponsor “booths” by clicking on their logo where it is displayed on the Expo Hall portion of the platform. From there, they can download materials, watch an intro-video, and connect with representatives through real-time video chat by simply “entering” their virtual tradeshow booth — launching them into a live video conversation.

The Green Job Fair is intended to foster connection, and will include a 45-minute panel featuring 4-5 experts in sustainability from the manufacturing, consumer, architecture, engineering, and product sectors. The panel will conclude with a 15-minute Q&A and 15 additional minutes for an online resume exchange.

  • The Two-Day Main Conference Pass ($99 Standard $75 Early Bird) includes access to the full program of educational sessions, keynotes, networking events, and virtual building tours, in addition to the Green Job Fair and virtual Expo Hall.

  • The Full Access Pass ($150 Standard $100 Early Bird) includes all features of the Two-Day Main Conference Pass, with the added benefit of being able to access recordings of all educational content for a full year following the event. This enables attendees to return to the platform at a later time to watch sessions that they may have missed during the two-day event.
