Staff Spotlight: Carla Roubaud

By Jennifer Huang

Verdical Group’s Staff Spotlight series highlights the incredible contributions that each of our team members make through their expertise. The series is also a great way to delve into what our team members do on a day-to-day basis to mitigate the climate crisis.

Meet Carla Roubaud, an Associate Project Manager at Verdical Group. Carla supports clients across a wide range of sustainability certifications, including LEED, Fitwel, CHPS, and more. As a LEED AP and LEED Green Associate, she brings comprehensive expertise and a passion for holistic environmental design to every project she supports.

Carla’s journey into sustainable building started early — as far back as elementary school, when she ran for Secretary of Ecology in the fifth grade, campaigning for better recycling practices. Over time, her curiosity about how the built environment impacts quality of life evolved into a career centered around designing healthier, more resilient spaces. “Sustainability has always felt like the most logical and responsible way to approach design,” she reflects.

No two days are the same for Carla. Her role requires constant coordination across multiple projects and clients, ensuring that technical requirements align with each team’s broader sustainability goals. She thrives on connecting the technical details with the deeper purpose: helping clients create spaces that improve lives while minimizing environmental impact.

When asked about a favorite project, Carla finds it impossible to pick just one. Each project, she explains, carries unique challenges and opportunities that fuel her professional growth and passion. Lately, she has especially enjoyed working on CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) projects aimed at creating healthier, more sustainable schools. Having once taught ecology to young students herself, Carla finds it deeply rewarding to know that her work is contributing to better learning environments for the next generation.

Staying motivated in the sustainability field can be daunting, but for Carla, it’s all about perspective. She focuses on the tangible progress made project by project and draws inspiration from collaborating with equally passionate teams. “Every decision, big or small, can lead to a more sustainable, equitable future,” she says.

Carla’s experience working in Mexico City also left a lasting impact. In a market where green building is still emerging, she witnessed firsthand the innovation and resilience it takes to drive change — lessons she brings with her to every project she touches.

Beyond her project management role, Carla’s love for sustainable design extends into her personal interests. She is passionate about regenerative design and nature-based solutions, finding inspiration in spaces that don’t just minimize harm, but actively give back to the environment and communities.

Her advice for those starting out in the green building industry? Stay curious, read voraciously, and seek out real-world experience. “Some of the most valuable lessons come from collaboration and hands-on learning,” she encourages.

Working in a male-dominated field also comes with its own set of challenges, but Carla approaches them with resilience and authenticity. By leading with knowledge, collaboration, and trust-building, she continues to demonstrate the real-world value of sustainable practices across all levels of the industry.

At Verdical Group, Carla’s commitment to creating a greener, healthier world is making a meaningful difference — one project, one space, and one community at a time.
