Staff Spotlight: Blake McLam

By Jordan Klotzle

Verdical Group’s Staff Spotlight series highlights the incredible contributions that each of our team members make through their expertise. The series is also a great way to delve into what our team members do on a day-to-day basis to mitigate the climate crisis.

Meet Blake McLam, an Energy Analyst for Verdical Group! Blake graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s in Business and Sustainability and holds a LEED Green Associate credential. He has been part of Verdical Group’s Energy and Atmosphere Team since July 2022.

As an Energy Analyst, Blake uses software such as IES to develop building energy models for LEED and Title 24, and produces the accompanying documentation to assist clients in their compliance and certification efforts. He also contributes to the development of daylight models and reports as part of the Energy and Atmosphere Team.

Blake’s efforts on our energy and daylight modeling services help to model projected emissions so that they can be measured, tracked, and ultimately reduced in order to lower a project’s carbon footprint. “The only way to account for emissions is to measure them,” he shared, helping to explain the importance of energy modeling in the effort to make our built environment more sustainable.

His favorite part of working at Verdical Group is being a part of “really cool projects with people who really want to make a difference.” He especially enjoys contributing to projects that have multiple uses and provide benefits to the surrounding communities, such as parks and shading.
