Shula Speaks on Polytechnic School Institute for Global Learning Climate Summit

Verdical Group’s Founder & CEO Drew Shula was featured on a panel at the Polytechnic School’s Institute for Global Learning (IGL) Climate Summit on February 21, 2026.

The summit’s theme was “What If We Get It Right?”, inspired by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson’s book What If We Get It Right? Visions of Climate Futures. The goal was to encourage students to take action and for the panelists to share ways that you think students can take meaningful action in the climate field.

Shula shared the following about his experience:

“It was wonderful to speak on a panel at Poly’s first Climate Summit. It was super inspiring to feel the student’s joy in tackling climate issues, and after my company, Verdical Group, completed a Carbon Reduction Plan for Poly’s entire campus a few years ago in 2022, it’s been incredible to see the work that the school and students have done to further these goals.

The giant solar panel array on the roof of the gym is a massive carbon reduction project that has been implemented from the Plan, and the students’ advocacy work with the City of Pasadena, is pushing the entire city to achieve zero carbon by 2030, less than 4 years from now.

Having 15-18 year old students make this type of impact is truly awe inspiring! I loved how the Climate Summit included students from many other LA area schools as well to broaden the messaging to other campuses.

The theme of the Climate Summit, “What if we get it right? Imagining a future of climate solutions,” allowed us to think idealistically about the future and what’s needed to solve the climate crisis. Personally, I consider the issue of climate change to be an education problem. We need enough people educated on the issues to vote policy into place, and that will be the tipping point to solving the entire climate crisis.

Poly’s Climate Summit renewed my optimism that we will solve this global issue together. It’s just a matter of how long it will take.”
