Shula Contributes to Metropolis Magazine’s ‘U.S. Sustainable Design Report’
The recently launched Metropolis + Interface U.S. Sustainable Design Report offers a balanced picture of sustainability in the U.S. built environment at the end of 2025.
Drawing on reports, research, and guidelines issued by A&D organizations over 2024–25, it benchmarks the state of sustainable architecture, defines large-scale challenges to progress, and highlights emerging perspectives and knowledge shaping the field.
Verdical Group’s Founder & CEO Drew Shula contributed to the Industry section on energy modeling, one of Verdical Group’s engineering services that can predict building performance.
“As climate accountability moves from aspiration to obligation, performance software has transitioned from
being a specialist add-on to being used as a core design medium. Platforms like IES Virtual Environment, ClimateStudio, and C.Scale are widely adopted not simply because they model energy and carbon, but because they translate complex environmental data into design intelligence that architects can act on—early, iteratively, and at scale,” the report shares.
Shula spoke to Metropolis about our use of IES VE at Verdical Group:
“The most important tool we use to optimize building energy performance is IES VE. [It provides] the design team with feedback on how choices like wall thicknesses, glazing, and site orientation impact the overall energy performance of the building.”
Our experts use the platform to complete whole-building energy modeling and compliance-driven analysis. To learn more about how modeling can reduce your building’s footprint and even earn LEED points, contact us here. You can read Metropolis’ full report on their website.
