North Hills Wellness Center

The County of Los Angeles’ North Hills Wellness Center, also known as Monroe Community Wellness Center, is a one-story, 13,075-square-foot building designed by IBI Group and Pankow Builders. Verdical Group provided:

  • LEED v3 Project Management

The project is an integrated health center located on the campus of Monroe High School in San Fernando Valley, California, and includes medical and dental examination rooms, counseling offices, a business office, a nurse’s station, a pharmaceutical dispensary, laboratory/phlebotomy space, and health education and training rooms. Verdical Group worked with the project team to achieve LEED v3 Building Design & Construction: New Construction (BD+C: NC) Silver certification by focusing on occupant wellness, water conservation, and high-performing building systems.

The project is located in a densely developed area with easily accessible surrounding amenities and public transportation options, promoting walkability and connectivity for occupants. The site includes infiltration and underground treatment areas to promote stormwater management, treatment, and percolation. North Hills Wellness Center also demonstrates exceptional water efficiency. Native and adapted vegetation and efficient irrigation systems allow the project to reduce irrigation water usage by 78%, and water-efficient, WaterSense-labeled plumbing fixtures enable the building to reduce potable water use by 38%. The design-build team prioritized construction waste management and resource efficiency, diverting a whopping 94.5% of the on-site generated construction waste from landfills. The project team also strived to achieve superior indoor environmental quality in order to protect the health and well-being of building occupants. North Hills Wellness Center utilizes low-emitting materials, increased ventilation, and thermal comfort and lighting controls to provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.
