Knoll, Inc. Sustainable Materials Consulting

Verdical Group worked with the modern furniture designer Knoll to source information required to register Declare labels through the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). Verdical Group provided:

  • Sustainability Consulting:
    • ILFI Declare Label Consulting
    • Sustainable Product & Materials Documentation
    • Internal Audit and Document Review

Declare labels are transparency labels that disclose product materials ingredients — consumers are able to see if toxic materials exist in the products they’re purchasing, just as a consumer in a grocery store can see the ingredients in the food they buy printed on the product packaging.

The original driver for this service was the nearly one-million-square-foot Google Charleston East campus project, which is pursuing Living Building Challenge (LBC) Petal certification and will be furnished by Knoll. In order to meet LBC Materials Petal requirements, Declare labels for the Knoll furniture products needed to be completed through ILFI. We coordinated with Knoll’s many suppliers to ensure materials information was captured and transparently reported through the Declare process.

We also are working with Knoll to research updated requirements for the California Technical Bulletin 117 regulation and deliver a rating system analysis matrix, which will review various green building and wellness certification rating systems to summarize all prerequisites and credits to which Knoll furniture might contribute.
