Policy Update: A Cleaner and Healthier City, State, and Country

Incredible action on climate change this summer will impact Los Angeles and surrounding cities, with huge changes happening at the federal, state, and local levels. We are a generation away from seeing a cleaner and healthier LA!


FEDERAL: THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT

One week ago, Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, which will boost clean energy and give $27 billion to building decarbonization programs.

STATE: 2022 BUILDING ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS

The State of California has released its next energy code, which will go into effect in January 2023. It requires PV and batteries in all new construction. It also establishes a new baseline to make heat pumps a standard.

LOCAL: PROMOTING ELECTRIFICATION 

Finally, in May, the City of Los Angeles took a major step to make all-electric buildings the default for new constructions and ban gas in most building types. You can read the full motion here.
